Putting together a summary on glp-1 and beta-cell preservation september 2026 since I keep seeing the same questions pop up.

I am not a medical professional (just a well-researched patient) so take this with appropriate salt, but I have compiled info from this forum and my own experience.

Happy to be corrected by the actual clinicians here — that is the whole point of posting it.

NicoleRaleigh's experience with GLP-1 and beta-cell resonates deeply with mine. I went through almost the identical process — starting dose, titration timeline, side effects, everything.

The main difference: I started 3 months later. But the overall trajectory has been remarkably similar. Down 62 lbs in 7 months.

One thing I would add that NicoleRaleigh did not mention: the mental health improvements were just as significant.

Thanks for sharing this, NicoleRaleigh. A few questions about your GLP-1 and beta-cell experience:

  1. What dose are you currently on?
  2. How long before you noticed significant changes?
  3. Did your doctor have any specific recommendations about GLP-1 and beta-?

I am in a similar boat and trying to learn from others' experiences before my next appointment.

OP here — wow, did not expect this much response! Thank you all for the thoughtful replies on GLP-1 and beta-cell.

To answer HPLC_Greg: I get my labs done through Quest every 3 months.

Quick update: my latest labs came back even better. Thanks again for the evidence-based discussion — this is exactly why I posted in a science-based community. 🙏

Relevant to GLP-1 and beta-cell — here is my latest bloodwork comparison:

Key improvements: A1C 8.0% → 5.3%, triglycerides 195 → 95 mg/dL, hsCRP 6.0 → 1.3 mg/L. All on tirzepatide for 11 months.

The inflammatory marker drop is what impresses me most. Consistent with the SELECT trial's cardiovascular findings.
