Everything A1cChaser said is correct. I'd also note that A1c has some known limitations:
- Iron deficiency can falsely elevate A1c
- Recent blood loss or transfusion can falsely lower it
- Hemoglobin variants (common in certain ethnic groups) can skew results
- Kidney disease affects red blood cell turnover and A1c accuracy
For prediabetic patients on GLP-1 therapy, I often find fasting insulin and HOMA-IR more sensitive early markers of improvement than A1c. If your fasting glucose dropped, your insulin sensitivity is improving. The A1c will follow.
