This is such helpful input. I just checked my protein tracking and yeah — weeks 1-3 (my foggy period) I was averaging like 45g of protein a day because I could barely eat. Week 4+ I've been more intentional about it and I'm at 80-90g. The timing of my clarity correlating with increased protein intake is... probably not a coincidence.

Brains need fuel. Even brains on appetite suppressants. Note taken.

Adding another dimension: my MOOD clarity has been as significant as my cognitive clarity. I have generalized anxiety disorder and it has improved noticeably since starting semaglutide. Less rumination, less catastrophizing, calmer baseline.

My psychiatrist said this could be related to gut-brain axis changes — the gut microbiome influences anxiety and mood via the vagus nerve, and GLP-1 RAs significantly alter gut function. She's intrigued and keeping close tabs on it.

Not recommending anyone use GLP-1 as an anxiety treatment, but the mental health ripple effects are real for some of us.

Great thread. Key takeaway: cognitive effects are varied and multifactorial. If you're experiencing brain fog:

  • Check your caloric intake — undereating causes fog
  • Check your protein — your brain needs amino acids
  • Check your hydration — dehydration is common on GLP-1s
  • Give it time — the adjustment period is real
  • If fog persists beyond 8-10 weeks with adequate nutrition, talk to your prescriber

And if you're experiencing clarity — enjoy it. Your brain deserves the bandwidth.
