Wait there's going to be a 50mg oral version?? That would be a game changer honestly. I would switch in a heartbeat if the efficacy matched injectable.

For the travel issue specifically — a few tips that helped me keep using injectable while traveling constantly:

  • FRIO insulin cooling wallets — no refrigeration needed, just soak in water. Keeps pens cool for 48-72 hours.
  • TSA has NEVER given me an actual problem with my Wegovy pens. I keep them in a clear bag with the prescription label visible. Just tell them it's medication.
  • Most hotels will put medication in their kitchen fridge if you ask the front desk.
  • Wegovy pens are actually stable at room temperature (up to 86°F/30°C) for up to 28 days, so for short trips you might not even need refrigeration.

Ok this is all super helpful. It sounds like switching to oral at my current dose (1.7mg injectable) would be a downgrade in efficacy, and the daily fasting requirement might actually be MORE of a hassle than weekly injections.

I think I'll stick with injectable and try the FRIO wallet for travel. And keep my eye out for when/if the higher-dose oral formulation gets approved.

Thanks everyone — saved me from making a mistake! 🙏

Smart decision. One more data point: the oral 50mg formulation from OASIS 1 also had higher rates of GI side effects compared to injectable 2.4mg in cross-trial comparisons. The 50mg pill delivers a LOT of semaglutide to the stomach lining even if only 1% is absorbed systemically, and that local GI exposure may cause more nausea/vomiting. Something to factor in if/when it becomes available.
