Been on the Boots programme since September 2025 — now on maintenance dose 2.4mg. Total loss: 22kg (3.5 stone) in 6 months. BMI went from 38 to 31.

My experience with the higher doses:

  • 1.7mg: This is where the side effects hit hardest for me. Significant nausea, constipation, and one episode of severe acid reflux that had me in A&E (turned out to be nothing serious, but scary)
  • 2.4mg: Paradoxically, side effects actually IMPROVED from 1.7mg. My body seemed to adjust. Weight loss accelerated at this dose.

Important financial note: Boots offers a "subscribe and save" discount if you commit to 3 months at a time. Saves about 10% per month. For the 2.4mg dose that brings it down from £299 to £269/month. Still expensive but more manageable.

I want to flag something for Boots Wegovy users: keep your receipts and treatment records. If Wegovy or tirzepatide becomes available on the NHS for obesity (which I think is inevitable within 2-3 years as NICE updates TA875), having documented evidence of successful private treatment will help your GP transition you to an NHS prescription.

Several GPs I know have told me they'd consider shared-care arrangements for patients who can demonstrate sustained weight loss on private Wegovy. The precedent is there — it already happens with private ADHD medication being transitioned to NHS prescriptions.

The Boots programme documentation is actually quite good for this purpose — they provide quarterly treatment summaries you can share with your GP.

— that's a great point, I hadn't thought of it from that angle. I'll make sure to download the summaries and keep them with my GP records.

— 22kg in 6 months is amazing, well done. Did you combine it with any particular exercise regime or was it mostly the appetite suppression doing the work?

For anyone on the fence about starting: yes, it's expensive. But I've spent more than £2,500 in previous years on gym memberships I didn't use, diet programmes that didn't work, and junk food that was making me ill. At least this is actually working.
