Been doing this for 18 months. Pro tips from experience:

  • Buy a pack of 29g or 30g insulin syringes for injection — thinner = less pain
  • After reconstitution, I put a tiny piece of tape on the vial with the date and concentration written on it
  • If you see bubbles after swirling, just let the vial sit for 5 minutes. They'll dissipate.
  • When drawing your dose, insert the needle, invert the vial, and pull back PAST your desired dose, then push back to the exact line. This helps clear any air bubbles in the syringe.

It becomes second nature after 2-3 times. Promise.

Did it!! Hands were shaking the first time but the powder dissolved in about 90 seconds and the solution is perfectly clear. Labeled the vial, put it in the fridge. First injection tomorrow morning.

Thank you all so much. This community is amazing. 🙏

Bookmarking this entire thread. I start next week and was dreading the reconstitution part. This makes it feel doable.

One thing I forgot to mention — never reuse needles. Fresh needle every time you draw from the vial and every time you inject. Dulled needles hurt more, and reused needles can introduce bacteria into the vial or cause injection site issues. Insulin syringes are cheap. Buy a box of 100.
