Hey CompoundTalk! I've noticed a lot of newbie questions about crypto wallets in various threads so I figured I'd make a dedicated beginner guide. This is the post I wish existed when I started. I'm assuming you know NOTHING about crypto. No judgment — we all started somewhere. What is a crypto wallet? Think of it like a digital bank account, except YOU control it completely. No bank. No middleman. Just you and your money. Two types you need to know: 1. Hot wallet = on your phone/computer. Convenient but less secure (like a regular wallet in your pocket) 2. Cold wallet = hardware device (like a Ledger or Trezor). More secure but less convenient (like a safe deposit box) For buying peptides/supplements? A hot wallet is fine. You're not storing your life savings — you're spending $100-500 at a time. I'll walk through setup step by step in the replies 👇

STEP 1: Choose your wallet For beginners I recommend Cake Wallet (mobile) or Exodus (desktop + mobile). Why Cake Wallet: - Free, open source - Supports Bitcoin, Monero, Litecoin, and more - Built-in exchange (swap between coins without leaving the app) - Available on iOS and Android - Clean, simple interface Why Exodus: - Beautiful design (sounds dumb but it makes crypto less scary) - Desktop + mobile sync - Supports 250+ coins - Built-in exchange - Great for beginners who want to see everything in one place Download directly from the official website or app store. NEVER download from a random link someone sends you. Scammers create fake wallet apps. Always verify. 🔒

STEP 2: Set up your wallet & SAVE YOUR SEED PHRASE When you create a new wallet, it will generate a "seed phrase" — usually 12 or 24 random words. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THIS ENTIRE GUIDE. Your seed phrase IS your wallet. If you lose your phone, you can recover everything with these words. If someone ELSE gets these words, they can steal everything. Rules: ✅ Write it down on paper (yes, actual paper) ✅ Store the paper somewhere safe (fireproof box, safe, etc.) ✅ Consider making a second copy in a different location ❌ Do NOT screenshot it ❌ Do NOT save it in Notes/Google Drive/email ❌ Do NOT share it with ANYONE, ever ❌ No legitimate service will EVER ask for your seed phrase I cannot stress this enough. I've seen people lose thousands because they saved their seed phrase in their email and got phished. Paper. Pen. Safe place. Done. ✍️

OK I downloaded Cake Wallet and wrote down my seed phrase (on paper, in my safe, I listened 😂). Now what? How do I actually get crypto INTO the wallet?

perfect, you're doing great! STEP 3: Fund your wallet Easiest methods for beginners: Option A: Buy directly in Cake Wallet Cake Wallet has a "Buy" button. You can purchase BTC or XMR with a debit card through their integrated providers. Fees are a bit higher (~3-5%) but it's the simplest method. Good for small amounts. Option B: Buy on an exchange, then send to your wallet 1. Create account on Coinbase, Kraken, or similar 2. Buy the crypto you want (BTC, LTC, etc.) 3. Go to "Send" on the exchange 4. Paste your Cake Wallet receiving address 5. Send it 6. Wait for it to arrive (a few minutes to an hour depending on the coin) Option C: Bitcoin ATM Find one near you (coinatmradar.com). Insert cash, scan your wallet QR code, receive BTC. Fees are high (7-12%) but it's cash-based and fairly private. For most people here, Option A or B is the way to go. Start with a small amount ($20-50) to test the process before sending more 🧪
