Hi all, brand new here. My endo just prescribed semaglutide and I have a question about 24% weight loss number blew my.

Sorry if this has been asked before — I did try searching but the amount of information here is overwhelming (in a good way). I am on week 1 and everything is new to me.

Any guidance appreciated. You all seem really knowledgeable and I am glad I found this community.

Good question. For 24% weight loss number blew my mind, here is what the evidence says:

  • The clinical trial data (SURMOUNT program) supports this approach
  • Real-world results from this community generally confirm the trial findings
  • Individual variation is real — give it at least 8 weeks before judging

Happy to go deeper on any of these points if helpful.

Completely agree with Dr.PeteFamMed. I would add that 24% weight loss number blew my also has implications for long-term metabolic health that sometimes get overlooked in these discussions.

In my case, following a similar approach led to significant improvements compared to what I was doing before.

Exactly this. My pharmacist said the same thing about 24% weight loss.

As a pharmacist, I want to add some clinical context to this discussion on 24% weight loss number blew my mind -.

Building on what pam_columbus said — the evidence base here is robust. The key publications to reference are from the SURMOUNT program[1].

Key clinical points:

  1. Efficacy is dose-dependent and typically requires 4-5 weeks to reach steady state
  2. Side effect profile is predictable and usually manageable with standard protocols
  3. Monitoring should include baseline labs and follow-up at 3-month intervals
  4. Patient education significantly improves outcomes and adherence

Standard disclaimer: this is educational, not individualized medical advice.
