Quick question for the group — powerlifting on glp-1 strength gains while.

I searched before posting (promise!) but the threads I found were from a few months back and things seem to have changed since then.

My situation: I'm about 4 months in and this came up during my last appointment. My pharmacist mentioned it but did not go into detail.

Would love to hear from people who've actually dealt with this. What worked? What didn't? What do you wish someone had told you?

Thanks everyone — this forum has been invaluable for me.

I respect JakeBK_lifts perspective but I think this oversimplifies things a bit. Re: Powerlifting on GLP-1 — the subgroup analyses show meaningful heterogeneity.

I am not saying JakeBK_lifts wrong entirely — just that the picture is more nuanced than a blanket statement. The SURMOUNT data specifically shows baseline BMI-dependent responses.

+1 to JakeBK_lifts. Especially the point about "Powerlifting on GLP-1 strength gains wh..." — I have seen the same in my own experience with Powerlifting on GLP-1 .

As a pharmacist, I want to add some clinical context to this discussion on Powerlifting on GLP-1 strength gains.

Building on what JakeBK_lifts said — the evidence base here is robust. The key publications to reference are from the SURMOUNT program[1].

Key clinical points:

  1. Efficacy is dose-dependent and typically requires 4-5 weeks to reach steady state
  2. Side effect profile is predictable and usually manageable with standard protocols
  3. Monitoring should include baseline labs and follow-up at 3-month intervals
  4. Patient education significantly improves outcomes and adherence

Standard disclaimer: this is educational, not individualized medical advice.

Gonna push back on this one. Powerlifting on GLP-1 strength is not that straightforward in my experience. I have been on this for 12 months and the reality is messier than the trials suggest.

Don't get me wrong — the medication works. But cost accessibility is a real barrier. We should be honest about that.
