lol the real difference is $1,050/month

This. I hate that the conversation always gets framed as "compounded is risky" when the REAL risk for most people is not being able to afford treatment at all. My doctor wanted me on Wegovy but at $1,350/month it might as well be on Mars.

Compounded sema from a legit pharmacy gave me my life back. A1C from 7.6 to 5.8, down 47lbs, off metformin. If that's "rolling the dice" then I'll keep rolling.

Just to add some data context here — there have been independent analyses comparing compounded semaglutide potency vs label claims. Results are mixed:

Study/AnalysisSourceFinding
FDA Testing (2023)FDA AlertSome products had no detectable semaglutide or wrong salt form
Independent Lab (2024)Various reports503B facilities tested: 85-110% of label claim (acceptable range)
State Board ActionsMultiple statesSeveral 503A pharmacies cited for sterility failures
Patient Surveys (online)Community data~78% of users report comparable efficacy to brand

The takeaway: quality varies enormously by pharmacy. A good 503B facility can produce a product that's essentially equivalent. A sketchy 503A pharmacy might produce something that's underdosed, contaminated, or unstable. Do your due diligence.

Good discussion everyone. Mod reminder: we don't allow direct links to specific compounding pharmacies or telehealth providers (Rule 7). You can discuss the category in general terms but please don't name specific vendors. DMs are fine for that.

Also tagging this thread with the "compounded" flair for searchability.

Thanks everyone for the thorough responses. I think I'm going to look into a reputable 503B pharmacy and ask the questions that were mentioned above. The cost difference is just too significant to ignore, and based on what y'all are saying, a good compounder can produce something equivalent.

If anyone has switched from brand to compounded and can share their experience with maintaining results, I'd love to hear it (DMs welcome since we can't name vendors here).

I switched 6 months ago and my weight loss trajectory didn't change at all. If anything it continued at the same rate. The only difference I noticed is the compounded stuff stings slightly more on injection — probably the different buffer solution. Minor complaint.

Also pro tip: if you're switching, try to time it so you don't have a gap between your last Wegovy dose and your first compounded dose. Sema has a ~7 day half-life (168 hours to be exact) so a gap of more than a week could lead to a dip in serum levels and potential return of appetite.
