I inject my Wegovy every Thursday morning and I've noticed a definite pattern in how I feel throughout the week:

  • Thursday (injection day): Fine for a few hours, then nausea and fatigue kick in by evening
  • Friday: Worst day. Nauseous, exhausted, zero appetite, zero energy
  • Saturday: Starting to feel better, still a bit off
  • Sunday-Wednesday: Feel great, good energy, appetite somewhat normal

Currently I'm trying to work out 3x/week and struggling with scheduling. If I train Thursday I feel fine but the post-workout recovery gets tanked by the injection side effects. If I skip Fri/Sat I lose 2 potential training days.

How do you all schedule your workouts around injections? Does timing actually affect results or am I overthinking this?

You're not overthinking it at all — this is one of the most common scheduling challenges my GLP-1 clients face. The side effect pattern you describe is extremely typical.

My general recommendation: schedule your key training sessions on your "good" days and use injection/recovery days for light activity or rest.

For your Thursday injection schedule, I'd suggest:

  • Sunday: Resistance Training Day A (you're 3 days post-injection, feeling good)
  • Tuesday: Resistance Training Day B (5 days post, peak energy for most people)
  • Wednesday OR Thursday morning: Resistance Training Day C (pre-injection or early injection day)
  • Friday: Complete rest or gentle walking only
  • Saturday: Light activity — easy walk, stretching, yoga

The "golden window" for most weekly injectors seems to be days 3-6 post-injection. That's when side effects have subsided but the medication is still providing good appetite control.

I switched my injection day specifically to optimize my training schedule and it made a huge difference. I inject Monday evenings and train Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. By Wednesday I'm through the worst of the side effects and have three good training days in a row.

If your doctor is flexible on which day you inject, it's worth considering which day gives you the best training window. Obviously keep it the same day each week — just pick the day strategically.

That schedule makes so much sense. I've been stubbornly trying to do Mon/Wed/Fri and Fridays are just absolute wastes — I show up to the gym and can barely move any weight.

Interesting idea about switching injection days. I picked Thursday randomly when I started. Might ask my doctor about moving to Friday evening so my worst days (Sat/Sun) are when I'd naturally rest anyway, and I get Mon-Thu as training days.

I inject Friday nights for exactly the reason Sally just described. Worst days are Saturday and Sunday when I'm at home anyway. Monday through Thursday are my training days and I feel great for all of them. Game changer.

One tip — inject AFTER dinner on your injection day, not before. Eating a solid meal beforehand seems to reduce the nausea for me. Taking it on an empty stomach is brutal.
